This is a great story and we’ll know more once the original research team gets back to the caves in Flores. Hard to believe, but their work was halted by the Indonesian government at one point. There is more on this ongoing controversy about Homo floresiensis at www.floresgirl.com. I'm hoping this is for real since I wrote a novel about this find.

Wow, its quite crazy to think that in 2006 we may still be finding living 'hobbit' like creatures. Not too sure what Frodo will think of it!?

yup, but eventually the hobbits not a fairytale, but
in malaysia probably is a true story. I can bet u if u
discover mountains across peninsular malaysia, u'll see a lot of stranges that never discover before.

That's interesting. I'd be surprised if these guys made it as far as malaysia, since they must have been isolated for quite a time to have evolved so differently to us. But stories can travel that distance with ease, and the eating kids thing sounds like something added by some tired young mother to get her children to go to bed and be quiet in the evening! What is amazing, to people like me at least, is that something most people would dismiss as just a legend actually turns out to have been based fairly significantly in fact.

Of course the orang-utan was originally described to outsiders and explorers as a different kind of human that inhabits the jungle, hence the name obviously. (For those that don't know, orang = man and utan = forest). In a way it is. Or rather, it only isn't because we have defined "human" to apply more specifically.

I have heard similiar stories in Malaysia of small human-like animals roaming the jungles, snatching little children from local villages for food.
