Underblog’s Minor Annoyances: No 47 April Fools
An international council of newspaper, magazine and major weblog publishers have decided to ban all April fools day jokes from their publications. An insider said “well, basically, we realised that the vast majority are childish and unfunny”. You’ll hear no complaint from me.
That was a lie, by the way. No doubt the internet will full of jokes (I use the term in its loosest sense) by the end of the day, and tomorrow it will be just as packed with smart-arsed “fooled you” postings. What really gets my goat is stories that are perfectly believable. For example, if you believe a story about some new silly haircut that David Beckham has, you are not a fool because a) Beckham has a new silly hairstyle every month, so the story is completely plausible, and b) You almost certainly don’t care either way.
With my spleen well and truly vented, I am reminded of this definition of “blog”. Happy April fools day.
